Philippe Jakko is a multi-instrumentalist composer (piano, keyboards, guitar, bass, oud) with a passion for cinematic storytelling. He possesses a highly developed sense of composition and a strong affinity for melody, which he explores through both small and large orchestral ensembles, incorporating elements of jazz, folk, and even electronic music when appropriate.
His film scores in France range from soundtracks for comedies (LES BARBARES by J. Delpy, CLASSICO by N. Guedj and A. Piquet-Gauthier, NOTRE-DAME by V. Donzelli), comedy-dramas (CLEO, MELVIL ET MOI by A. Viard, LE COEUR EN BRAILLE by M. Boujenah—Best Music at the 2017 Quebec Family Film Festival), and dramas (LE CHOIX D’ALI by A. Hakkar), while internationally, he composes primarily for thrillers (5LBS OF PRESSURE by P. Allocco, KAUFMAN’S GAME by H. Bissell-Thomas) and action films (ENEMY LINES by A. Banke, ALLIES by D. Burns – nominated for Best International Film Score at the 2015 Jerry Goldsmith Awards).
For television, he has composed scores for acclaimed series such as R. Tissot’s *LES ESPIONS DE LA TERREUR*, for which he won the award for Best Music at the 2023 La Rochelle Fiction Festival, as well as V. Donzelli’s *NONA ET SES FILLES* and *QUE D’AMOUR!* —music that was honored at the 2015 Jerry Goldsmith Awards. He is also the composer of the soundtrack for the TV movie CLEVES and the
series CE QUE PAULINE NE VOUS DIT PAS, both directed by R. Tissot. Eclectic,
Philippe Jakko also composes music for ballets (Kader Attou, CCN La Rochelle) and plays, as well as songs, including two number-one hits in the charts in France and Europe: “Yakalelo” (Nomads – 1998 – Sony/TF1) and “Parce qu’on sait jamais” (Christophe Mae – 2007 – Warner). His theme for the opening credits of the RT Television England/Ireland TV program GOING UNDERGROUND was nominated in the Best Opening Credits category at the Sounds+Music Awards in London in 2014.
Trained at the Besançon Conservatory and the Conservatoire Supérieur de Lyon (harmony, counterpoint, music analysis, and orchestral conducting), he continued his studies at IRCAM and then at the École des Hautes Études in Paris, where he studied musicology under Philippe Manoury, Pierre Boulez, Pascal Dusapin, François
and Bernard Mache.
He then worked in the music industry and for the major Parisian labels—Universal, Sony BMG, and Warner—as a composer, arranger, and producer before specializing in film music.
